Americans believe that 62% of the news they consume on TV, in newspapers, and on the radio is biased, according to a survey from the Knight Foundation and Gallup. Civl News is designed to reduce bias by showing both sides of the news and providing resources to take action on topics that matter most to you.
How to reduce bias in news while also respecting opinions?
Psychologist, Marriage Councilor
I worked with Jared, an entrepreneur, who shared with me his observation that there isn’t a source of news that is truly unbiased.
Ground News is an app that attempts to solve bias also
Other unique apps have the goal to simplify
Most other news apps are a feed
Unbiased isn’t possible, even if it’s a software code, it’s still untrusted to a degree
Present both sides and let people gain empathy for each other
Will need an action or some type of agreement for a solution
News articles are text heavy, so my challenge is to find a layout that is easily compared.
Side-by-side comparison is a challenge
Clear communicate of key aspects of each article
User Testing Revisions

Common Ground feature will need more exploration of how to integrate it within the home feed
I would like to design a new way for how articles are shared on social media
