Process Highlights

Homepage Progression
I found that this persona, The Downsizing Maker will really gain value from this site. He has the ambition to build but just needs a bit more knowledge to do it.
Competitors sites are unorganized
Have to pay for knowledge about how to build
Site can be valuable business with free build guides

Key Insights
The site offering free tools to organize a project and free knowledge can still be a valuable business. The branding also communicates quirk and ease which helps encourage those who are beginners.
Consistent UI design patterns
Keep content open and let users decide to close, instead of closing/hiding things and letting them open
How to Build Page
I researched other how-to sites and found that they use lots of pictures to explain each step, rarely they included videos. I also interviewed a general contractor who builds custom homes and restaurants.
Use lots of pictures, drawings and videos to explain
Organize every aspect of the project
Don’t assume people understand first try, clarify and more details

User Testing Revision
Key Insights
From user feedback they commented that this was a very thorough way to understand each step but were missing a way to add a specific step to their project guide.

Personalized Project Guide
I learned from each interview that every project needs to be organized and written down for the whole team to follow along.
I found three main sections the user could easily organize the project into: DIY, Learn More, and Hire Out

Key Insights
Since they might not be pros just yet, having their profile also become a useful tool for the project adds a lot of value to them.
